GGreetings, fellow music lovers!

Welcome to Beijing, and to the Global Music Education League Violin Competition.

As the President of this competition, I am thrilled at the chance to organize and plan this event with the Chairman of our Jury, world-renowned violinist Professor Bin Huang. I am also pleased to welcome The Philadelphia Orchestra to join us again in the 50th anniversary-year since the Orchestra’s first performance in China in 1973.

The first China International Music Competition presented by the GMEL in 2019 has had a great influence globally, and the emerged young pianists from the competition, bearing the imprint of China, have been shining on the world stage.

Due to the pandemic, the violin competition set originally in 2020 was regrettably cancelled. As the pandemic influence has evaporated this year, I am very pleased to gather with you once again, cherishing our shared love for music and our common expectations for the future of music, at the "GMEL Violin Competition" in 2023.

It’s my belief that music dissolves barriers between people and between countries. For reciprocal exchange is what makes cultures colourful, and mutual reflection is what makes cultures fertile. And music has the great power to promote world peace and the advancement of human civilization. This is the mission of the GMEL, and this is also the very reason to initiate the competition.

As an open competition, this event will help to establish a model for musical appreciation and set a standard for musical education. This is the unique—and most valuable— significance of the competition. It will also connect closely to the teaching, research and artistic practice with all GMEL member institutions and China Conservatory of Music, and profoundly engage with students of music performance, music theory, music creation and other professional programmes.

I hope that our competition can become a platform for launching great musicians of the future. Bearing the stamp of the GMEL music competition, they will surely one day become musical ambassadors promoting world peace.
