TRISTAN RAIS-SHERMAN

American conductor Tristan Rais-Sherman is conducting fellow of The Philadelphia Orchestra for the 2022–23 season. While in Philadelphia, he will assist Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin as well as other guest conductors and lead The Philadelphia Orchestra in a variety of different concert programs. He is a recipient of the 2022 Career Assistance Award from the Solti Foundation US, and a former guest conductor at the New England Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Rais-Sherman is a multi-dimensional artist exploring the intersection of technology and music. Forging the future of classical music through unconventional and innovative means, he has been building audiences on digital platforms such as Twitch. He is blazing a new path for the future of music that is exciting, engaging, and inclusive.

Mr. Rais-Sherman has led orchestras around the globe, including the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Interlochen Arts Camp, the Aurora Festival (Sweden), the Darlington Festival Orchestra (United Kingdom), the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic (Russia), the Berlin Sinfonietta, the Chelsea Symphony (New York City), the Lamont School of Music Orchestra (Colorado), the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra. In past seasons he has served as cover conductor with the NEC Philharmonia, the St. Louis Symphony, Tulsa Opera, the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, and Syracuse Opera. He was also artistic director of the Hilltop Music Collective in Greenwich, Connecticut, a community and education focused ensemble.

In addition to an active performance career, Mr. Rais-Sherman loves sharing the magic of orchestral music with the next generation. He has guided programs at the Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School (New York City), the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra String Ensemble, and the New York Youth Symphony. He was also conductor of the Harmony Program Youth Orchestra, leading the group in high-profile performances alongside mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and as a part of Gustavo Dudamel’s 2018 Residency at Princeton University.

Mr. Rais-Sherman has had the honor to have learned from industry leaders including Hugh Wolff, Kenneth Kiesler, Cristan Măcelaru, David Zinman, Sian Edwards, Neil Varon, and Jeffrey Meyer.

Mr. Rais-Sherman holds an artist diploma from the New England Conservatory, a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor’s degree in cello performance from Ithaca College.
