Violinist Muyan Yang studies with Martin Beaver at the Colburn School. She holds her bachelor’s degree at Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Ilya Kaler and Olga Kaler, where she is a recipient of the Martha Bell Sanders Excellence Scholarship.

Born in 2001, China, Muyan began studying the violin at age five. She studied with Hui Jin at Middle School attached to China Conservatory of Music. Muyan has performed throughout China and the US. She was highly praised for her performance for The First Ladies of China and Finland in 2019.

Winner of the 2022 International Mozart Competition Vienna, she was recently awarded Third Prize in the Ysaye International Music Competition in Belgium. She has been selected to receive the 2022 Anna Y. Tringas Award for Violin (the award recognizes an exceptional violinist); Honorable Mention for the concerto competition of 2022 spring at Cleveland Institute of Music; First prize at the Beijing Forbidden City International Violin Competition & Oberlin Conservatory’s Thomas-Cooper International Violin Competition 2013; the Excellent Student Scholarship Award 2014-2018 at China Conservatory of Music, etc.

Muyan has been profoundly influenced and inspired by the summer studying and masterclasses with Shmuel Ashkenasi, Kathleen Winkler, Vadim Gluzman, Mihaela Martin, James Ehnes, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Catherine Cho, Hyo Kang, Soovin Kim and Benjamin Beilman, etc.
