GIOVANNI ANGELERI

Italy

Born to musician parents in Padua, northern Italy, violinist Giovanni Angeleri began his concert career at a very tender age, dedicating himself, since childhood, also to the study of ancient music on period instruments.

His name appears on the Golden Roll of Winners at numerous international competitions, most notably: the “Kreisler” of Vienna, the UNISA of Pretoria, the “Prague Spring” and the Vaclav Huml of Zagreb, of which he is the only Italian to date to have won the absolute First Prize.

His worldwide high reputation on the concert scene came to him however after his victory at the "Paganini" Competition in 1997, followed by a busy schedule of concerts for prestigious musical institutions and international festivals (including Dubrovnik, Spoleto, Seville, Beloeil).

He played all the major works of the repertoire with several orchestras including the Wiener Symphoniker, the RTV Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg, the Transvaal Philharmonic (South Africa), the Prague Virtuosi, the Orquesta Sinfonica del Estado de Mexico, the Budapest Philiharmonic, the Sofia Philiharmonic, the Orchestra of the City of Montreal, the Israel Sinfonietta, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra "Musica Viva", the Zagreb Philiharmonic, the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the China National Opera House Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Academia China, as well as several important Italian Orchestras (Rome, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Genoa, Venice, Verona).

He has had the privilege of performing on famous instruments: the Stradivari "Cremonese 1715" belonging to the City of Cremona, the Stradivari "Karl Marx" of the Albert Eckstein Foundation, the Stradivari "Joachim-Kennedy", the Guarnerius "Stauffer" of the City of Cremona, the Guarnerius "ex Baltic" of the Lam collection, the Guarnerius "the King" of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Amati 1566 “Charles the IX” of the City of Cremona. Above all, he has had the honour of performing in Italy as well as abroad with the legendary Guarnerius 1742 "Il Cannone", the violin that once belonged to Paganini and that is now the proud property of the Genoa City Council.

In 2005 he was awarded the Seal of the City of Padua, the greatest Honor of his hometown.

Giovanni Angeleri is tenured violin professor at the Conservatory of Rovigo, Italy, and he is also the director of both Violin and Chamber Music courses at the “Masiero e Centanin” Musical Foundation.
