China International Music Competition partners with the Philadelphia Orchestra

The China Conservatory of Music and the Global Music Education League have announced that the China International Music Competition 2020 has secured a five-year partnership with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Taking place from 1 – 11 May 2020 in Beijing, the competition’s second edition will focus on the violin with 24 violinists from around the world competing for the US$150,000 prize. Second and third prizes are US$75,000 and US$30,000 respectively.
The partnership with the Philadelphia Orchestra builds on a collaboration which began at the inaugural competition this year, when Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducted the orchestra in the final round. In 2020, the Philadelphia Orchestra will perform in the first phase final round which will see six competitors play a major violin concerto by Mozart. The orchestra will also have an ongoing involvement in coaching, master classes and joint music-making opportunities with the students and faculty of the China Conservatory of Music.
Li-guang Wang, President of the China Conservatory of Music and chair of the Global Education League, welcomes the collaboration: ‘The joining hands of the two parties is a promise of the highest quality and widest influence of the CIMC as a world-class competition, with the aim of driving communication and exchange of musical culture and helping to build the future of musical civilisation.’
